The German ambassador to Fiji, Dr. Andreas Prothmann, has delivered an inspiring message to the youth of Fiji, encouraging them to embrace the power of education as a means to positively influence their communities. During a recent visit to Nabua Secondary School in Suva, he emphasized that education is essential for unlocking their potential and fostering personal development.

“You were born to make a difference. The untapped potential of youth is very much like a tiny seed that, with care, can grow into a mighty tree,” he stated. He shared insights from his own family’s experiences in Germany and highlighted the school’s innovative “Matua” program, underscoring the themes of lifelong learning and resilience.

Dr. Prothmann advised students that their past does not determine their future, encouraging them to see their experiences as chapters in a larger story. “You are the architects of your future. I believe in each and every one of you,” he asserted.

His visit included a showcase of vocational students at the school, who demonstrated their culinary skills by presenting a variety of Danish pastries, showcasing the practical applications of their education. The German embassy, established in Suva in 2023, has been actively engaging with local communities to strengthen ties and promote cultural exchange.

The ambassador’s motivating words reflect a broader vision for a thriving educational system in Fiji, amid concerns raised by Education Minister Aseri Radrodro about the challenges in the country’s education framework. Highlighting a need for increased community involvement, these efforts could contribute to a more resilient future for Fiji’s youth.

Dr. Prothmann’s visit and message serve as a reminder of the crucial role that education plays in shaping the leaders of tomorrow, fostering hope and positive change in the Pacific nation. Fiji stands at a pivotal moment, and with collective efforts, the potential for transformative changes in education could bring about lasting benefits for the entire community.
