More than 100 women have successfully completed their studies in the latest cohort of the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE), positioning them to further develop their small businesses. This program, initiated in 2020, has empowered nearly 600 Fijian women by providing them the necessary skills to launch and grow their ventures.

U.S. Ambassador to Fiji, Marie C. Damour, commended the new graduates, stating, “The US Embassy is proud to support Fijian women who are building businesses and driving economic growth. When Fiji prospers, the United States benefits too.” She emphasized that empowering women in entrepreneurship not only supports local communities but also enhances global commerce.

During the graduation ceremony, Rahama Wright, the founder and CEO of Shea Yeleen, underscored the importance of investing in women entrepreneurs, highlighting their typical community-focused approach. Wright noted, “Women tend to be very community-centered and more inclusive. That’s why it’s so crucial to support women leaders and business owners, as their impact extends beyond personal gains to benefit the wider community.”

Some of the youngest attendees, like 19-year-old Keren Koroi and 20-year-old Faith Finauga, shared their transformative experiences. Keren remarked, “I’m really honored to be part of this program because it opened my eyes beyond just buying and selling.” Faith, pursuing a double degree, highlighted the program’s vital role in shaping her academic journey and encouraging women to take control of their financial destinies.

Teupola Delailoa Tuilovoni, a graduate who operates a business focused on traditional artifacts, expressed her gratitude for the AWE program and its commitment to fostering passion in entrepreneurship. “Be your own boss,” she advised, emphasizing the importance of doing what you love.

Wright concluded with encouragement for graduates to hone both their technical and soft skills, advocating for resilience, confidence, and a willingness to adapt amidst challenges. “Don’t be afraid to try. Redefine failure,” she advised, inspiring the graduates to persevere in their entrepreneurial pursuits.

The AWE program’s ongoing success reflects a commitment to women’s empowerment in Fiji, ultimately fostering a more inclusive and thriving economy. As these women step forward to achieve their dreams, they not only transform their lives but also contribute to the prosperity of their communities.
