A total of 46 students proudly graduated from the Fiji National University’s School for Tourism, Hospitality & Travel at their Namaka campus in Nadi on Monday. The event celebrated not just academic achievements but also the personal transformations of these individuals, many of whom have overcome significant obstacles in their lives.
Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, officiating at the ceremony, commended the graduates for their resilience and highlighted how opportunity and support can indeed change lives. He stated, “You have gained valuable skills in barbering, baking and patisserie, and tour guiding—skills that can open doors to employment and entrepreneurship.” This sentiment echoes the broader aims of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which sponsored the training, underscoring the importance of equipping disadvantaged youth with practical skills.
The program has proven instrumental in empowering marginalized youth, reflecting the government’s ongoing commitment to fostering inclusive education. Similar initiatives have shown positive outcomes in Fiji, with previous programs providing essential training that fosters independence and job readiness for young individuals.
This graduation not only marks a significant milestone for the graduates but serves as an inspiring example of what can be achieved when communities invest in their youth. It demonstrates a collective effort towards reducing poverty and enhancing employability in the tourism sector—a vital component of Fiji’s economy.
As these newly graduated individuals step into their professional lives, they embody hope and potential, ready to make meaningful contributions to their communities and the economy. Their journeys reflect a narrative of resilience, emphasizing that with the right support and opportunities, a brighter future is possible for all young Fijians.
