A mother of five, Akosita Lolohea, recently celebrated her graduation from Pacific Polytech, becoming part of a cohort of 180 students who marked significant academic achievements together. Lolohea, who dedicated seven years to motherhood, decided to return to education and pursue a certificate in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) this year, a move she attributes to the steadfast support of her family.
As she embarks on her journey to find a job that would support her family, Lolohea emphasizes the untapped potential of women. “We don’t have to look at ourselves as housewives; we can pursue our dreams, upgrade our skills, and have big dreams,” she asserted, challenging women across the country to recognize their capabilities in any field they choose.
Lolohea’s inspiring story resonates with the journeys of other women pursuing education and careers despite various challenges. For instance, Lusiana Talatoka, who graduated from Pacific Polytech after overcoming health issues and single motherhood, and Salote Maria Taukeisalili, who earned her degree while managing motherhood, both exemplify resilience and determination. Their experiences highlight a growing trend of women breaking barriers and entering traditionally male-dominated fields.
This backdrop underscores a powerful message of empowerment: with support and perseverance, women can achieve their educational and career aspirations, no matter how daunting the obstacles may seem. Lolohea’s journey reinforces that dreams are attainable and serve as an inspiration for others to take bold steps towards their goals, showcasing resilience in the face of life’s challenges.
