He overcame his opponent, Joe Nesta Kolitapa, in a match that not only marked a significant moment in his boxing career but also signified the conclusion of his time in the youth category as he prepares to transition to the Elite division.
Starting his boxing journey at the age of 13, Qiokata has forged a formidable path in the world of Amateur Boxing. His leadership of the Fiji Amateur Boxing team led to a gold medal triumph at the Youth & Junior Oceania Boxing Championships in Tahiti, showcasing his dedication to the sport and his country.
At just 18 years old, Qiokata expressed profound pride in this recent victory, recognizing the special significance of it being his last win of the year and within the youth category. He stated, “I have come a long way fighting in Amateur boxing; what I have learned over the year is discipline and how to test your strength in the ring.”
Drawing inspiration from his grandfather, Marika Bola, a former Fiji Welterweight Champion, Qiokata is determined to continue his family’s boxing legacy. Reflecting on the match, he commented on the familiarity and competitiveness between him and Kolitapa, revealing that both had won three fights against each other prior. “I’m really thankful to get this win because it’s the last competition of the year,” he added.
