The Supervisor of Elections, Ana Mataiciwa, has lodged a formal police complaint against Barbara Malimali, the Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). The complaint, submitted on November 28 to Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew, alleges serious offenses including abuse of office, intimidation, and harassment of witnesses.

Acting Commissioner Chew has confirmed the filing of the report and stated that investigations are currently underway. This development is tied to a continuing inquiry by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) into Malimali, which has prompted further examination of her appointment through a Commission of Inquiry.

Additionally, the CID is conducting its own investigation concerning allegations of abuse of office during Malimali’s previous role as Chair of the Electoral Commission.

FijiLive has reached out to FICAC for further comments regarding the situation.

This incident highlights the ongoing efforts to ensure accountability and integrity within public office in Fiji. As investigations continue, there is hope that they will contribute to strengthening the public’s trust in governmental institutions.
