Drua's Second Half Surge Falls Short Against Reds

Drua’s Second Half Surge Falls Short Against Reds

The Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua Women faced a disappointing defeat in the Super W competition, losing 54-40 to the Queensland Reds despite a strong second-half effort. The match saw the Reds dominate early on, scoring a try just four minutes in from Carola Kreis, leading to a commanding 42-5 score at halftime.

In a remarkable show of resilience, the Drua emerged from the break with renewed vigor, scoring five converted tries in the second half, significantly narrowing the deficit. However, the Reds managed to maintain their lead with two additional tries of their own, ultimately securing their place in the finals.

This latest match echoes a previous encounter in which the Fijiana Drua narrowly lost 22-19 to the same Queensland side. In that earlier game, defensive struggles in the first half had also cost them dearly, but they demonstrated notable resilience in the second half, similar to today’s performance. Coach Asinate Serevi has acknowledged the need for improvement in defensive coordination and preparation for upcoming matches, emphasizing the growth of women’s rugby in the region.

Moving forward, the Fijiana Drua’s continued determination provides a hopeful outlook for their future in the tournament. Support from fans remains strong, and with every challenge, the team’s potential shines through, fostering optimism for their development in upcoming fixtures.
