Swire Shipping Fijian Drua head coach Glen Jackson has emphasized the significance of the team’s week-long training camp in Mount Maunganui, which he believes was crucial for their development both on and off the field. This followed their pre-season match against the Chiefs last Friday.
Jackson noted that the lead-up to the game provided a meaningful opportunity for the squad, particularly as it coincided with a challenging period for the Mount Maunganui community, which has been reeling from a recent landslip tragedy. In light of this, the Drua took the chance to connect with the locals while honing their sport skills.
Throughout the week, the Drua engaged in rigorous training sessions supplemented by team-building exercises designed to promote camaraderie and unity. Activities such as singing, making pizza, river sessions, and paintball not only enhanced the team’s culture but also fostered strong relationships among the players.
Looking ahead, the Drua are set to face the Skipper Select side next Friday in Lautoka for their second pre-season match, aiming to build on the invaluable experiences gained during their camp. The blend of community connection and intense preparation represents a positive and hopeful trajectory for the team as they strive toward a successful season.
