Swire Shipping Fijian Drua head coach Glen Jackson expressed the enthusiasm of his players as they prepare for the upcoming McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s. He highlighted that with limited team spots available, players are making a concerted effort to be on their best behavior to secure a place in the squad.
Jackson emphasized that the tournament presents an excellent opportunity for the team to gain valuable game experience ahead of their season. He noted the significant interest from players, indicating that they understand the importance of the Coral Coast 7s and the competitive nature of this year’s event.
“My phone hasn’t stopped. All the players are eager and I’m trying to convey to them what a great occasion this is,” Jackson said. He acknowledged the hard work that has gone into organizing the tournament and the increased challenges it poses this year. “We’re taking it really seriously. It’s a great chance for our men to get some match time and, as I said, selections will be challenging,” he added.
The Drua will commence their season on the 14th of next month with a match against Moana Pasifika in Lautoka. Their first game at the Coral Coast 7s will take place on Thursday at 11:40 am, where they will face off against the same Drua team, setting the stage for an exciting return to competitive action. With the enthusiasm and dedication displayed by the players, there is much to look forward to as the season unfolds.
