The Discovery Princess made a notable visit to Suva Port on January 8, marking an exciting moment for both the cruise liner and the capital city of Fiji. As part of the Royal Class (#6) fleet operated by Princess Cruises, the ship boasts a remarkable guest capacity of 3,660 lower berths and is accompanied by a crew of 1,346 professionals dedicated to enhancing the onboard experience.
This impressive cruise ship, which has a gross tonnage of 145,000, features 1,830 guest staterooms, including a variety of accommodations such as two sky suites, 42 suites with private balconies, and 374 mini-suites among others. In ensuring comfort and accessibility, the Discovery Princess also offers 40 accessible staterooms and 100 connecting staterooms, ensuring ample options for all travelers.
Onboard, guests can find a plethora of amenities, including showrooms, lounges, and a diverse selection of food and beverage venues, spread across 19 decks. The ship includes four pools—two top-deck pools, a retreat pool, and a wake-view pool—as well as ten hot tubs, providing various ways for passengers to relax and enjoy the sun.
The Discovery Princess, registered in Bermuda, was constructed by Fincantieri and handed over to Princess Cruises on January 28, 2022. Its arrival in Suva was met with warmth, as the Fiji Police Force assisted guests, setting up an information booth to guide them as they explored the vibrant capital city.
The Fiji Police expressed joy in welcoming the passengers, stating, “Great to see the passengers of the cruise liner Discovery Princess enjoying the Suva weather.” With the combined presence of over 4,000 passengers and crew, the hope is that these visitors fully embraced the renowned Fijian hospitality prior to their next destination in Nuku’alofa.
This marks the first cruise ship scheduled to visit Fiji this month, alongside notable vessels such as the Costa Deliziosa, Riviera, Noordam, and Zaandam, suggesting a promising start for the cruise season and the continued revival of tourism in the region.
