A fire broke out earlier today at a construction site adjacent to Narseys Plastics in Laucala Beach. Ajit Narsey, the director of Narseys Plastics, reported that their staff and management promptly reacted to the blaze, using fire extinguishers to help control the flames until the National Fire Authority (NFA) arrived on the scene. Fortunately, the response was swift and effective, and the fire was fully contained without any injuries reported.

Narsey clarified that the fire did not affect the Narseys Plastics facility or its operations, emphasizing, “Our facility remains completely unaffected, and operations continue as normal.” He reassured customers, suppliers, and stakeholders that productivity has not been disrupted and highlighted the company’s ongoing commitment to safety and business continuity.

The situation at the construction site stands in stark contrast to other recent fire incidents reported in Fiji. For example, there were alarming fires in previous months that affected various commercial and residential areas, raising concerns about fire safety and preparedness in the community. Recent incidents, such as a significant fire at Auto City Place in Raiwaqa and a tragic residential fire in Naidovi, have underscored the critical importance of fire safety awareness.

While the fire at the construction site could have posed a greater risk, the effective response from emergency services suggests a strong community commitment to protecting lives and property. It serves as a hopeful reminder that vigilance and proactive safety measures can mitigate the risks of fire-related disasters. Such incidents highlight the need for continuous awareness and preparedness within communities to ensure safety and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
