Fiji’s rugby captain and fullback Pita Kewa has officially withdrawn from the final Fiji rugby trials set for next Saturday. His decision comes as he will be overseas during the international Test match against Australia on May 24. At 35 years old, Kewa, who captained the Fiji team during the South Pacific Games last year, expressed that it would be fair to other players to withdraw from the trials since he cannot participate in the test.

He stated that he previously wanted to take part in the East trials last Saturday, but was unfortunately unable due to an illness. Kewa is set to attend a significant conference in London from May 19 to 24 as the Director of Town and Country Planning for the Fiji Government. He plans to return to Fiji on May 27.

Despite stepping back from this trial, Kewa has assured fans that he remains available for future international fixtures, including Tests against Italy, the All Blacks, and upcoming tours to New Zealand and Argentina. His absence from the trials, while disappointing, reflects his commitment to his professional responsibilities, which could inspire young athletes to prioritize both career and sport effectively.

Kewa’s dedication to representing Fiji remains steadfast, and there is optimism that he will contribute to the team’s success in future matches. His experience will undoubtedly be a valuable asset as Fiji gears up for critical encounters later this year.
