Civic awareness, information, and education play a crucial role in any modern democracy by fostering an informed citizenry. This week, the Social Empowerment and Education Programme (SEEP) raised concerns about the government’s outreach efforts following low attendance at consultations regarding critical legislative reforms, including the Electoral Act 2014 and the forthcoming Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). SEEP indicated that the government’s failure to create awareness before these consultations led to poor public participation.
Effective communication and outreach require adequate funding and careful planning.
