Fiji Finals track star Sera Nasilivata recently received a $500 prize from Member of Parliament Lynda Tabuya after breaking a 23-year-old record in the junior girls’ 100m event. The 15-year-old athlete clocked an impressive time of 12.30 seconds, surpassing the previous record of 12.34 seconds set in 1993 by Masilina Rakai. This remarkable achievement not only positions her as an outstanding talent but also highlights the competitive spirit at this year’s Coca-Cola Games.
The award was presented by former Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School athlete Kesaia Boletakanakadavu, who celebrated Nasilivata’s notable success. Notably, Nasilivata’s time was also faster than both the Intermediate Girls 100m champion, Lidia Waqairapoa, and Senior Girls blue ribbon winner, Claudie David, who finished with times of 12.51 and 12.63 seconds, respectively.
Nasilivata is set to compete again in the 200m events, with fans able to catch the live coverage on FBC TV. Her achievements echo a broader theme seen in this year’s Coca-Cola Games, which marked its 50th anniversary, showcasing the rise of emerging talent and a culture of excellence in athletics across Fiji. The event has witnessed significant performances, inspiring young athletes to push their limits and aim for success in future competitions.
As Nasilivata prepares for her next event, her story serves as an inspiration to many young athletes in Fiji, underscoring the importance of dedication and hard work in sports. It’s an exciting time for athletics in the region, promising a vibrant future for the sport as these young talents continue to break records.
