New High Jump Star Emerges at Fiji’s Coca-Cola Games

Fifteen-year-old John Vugakoto from Suva Grammar School has made a remarkable mark in Fijian athletics, setting a new high jump record at the Coca-Cola Games. During the sub-junior boys high jump event, he cleared an impressive height of 1.76 meters, surpassing the previous record of 1.74 meters established by Roko Uluiburotukula just last year. Vugakoto’s performance captivated the audience at ANZ Stadium and signaled the rise of a new star in the sport.

In addition to his record-setting jump, Vugakoto also showcased his athletic versatility by securing second place in the sub-junior boys 100m final. James Ranitu from Xavier College earned the silver medal in high jump with a height of 1.73 meters, while Apimeleki Ratulevu from Marist Brothers High School took home the bronze with a jump of 1.70 meters.

Vugakoto’s achievements echo a broader trend of exceptional talent emerging in Fiji’s athletics scene, much like other rising stars such as Rusiate Matai and Roko Uluiburotukula, who have also achieved remarkable feats in high jumping recently. Collectively, these young athletes inspire hope and represent a vibrant future for sports in Fiji. Their successes not only foster national pride but also motivate upcoming athletes to pursue their dreams with passion and determination.

As Vugakoto’s path in athletics unfolds, his accomplishments reflect not only personal dedication but also the supportive culture within the community that is nurturing young talent in Fiji.
