Barcelona has established a buyout clause of 500 million euros ($557 million) for midfielder Marc Bernal and has extended his contract until June 2026, according to an announcement from the LaLiga club on Monday. When Bernal reaches 19 years of age in 2026, he will have the option to extend his contract for an additional three years.
The 17-year-old player suffered a rupture of his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during Barcelona’s recent 2-1 win against Rayo Vallecano, forcing him to leave the match late in the game.
A graduate of Barcelona’s youth academy, Bernal has appeared in three league matches since making his senior team debut in the season opener against Valencia. Barcelona noted that prior to his injury, Bernal was making a significant impact at the beginning of the season. The club expressed that head coach Hansi Flick believed Bernal was prepared to elevate his game and that the new contract reflects their confidence in him as a valuable investment for the club’s future.
