A slow-moving trough of low pressure to the west of the Fiji group is keeping a moist east to northeast wind flow over the islands, bringing a mix of showers and isolated thunderstorms across many areas. The trough is expected to gradually weaken as it drifts further south, but pockets of heavier rain are likely, particularly later in the day. This bulletin was issued by the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi at 5:30am on Monday 27 April 2026.
The heaviest and most persistent activity will affect coastal Seru‑Namosi, Greater Suva/Nausori–Tailevu, interior Serua‑Namosi/Naitasiri, parts of interior Ba and Nadroga/Navosa, interior Ra/Rakiraki, southern Bua and Cakaudrove provinces, the Lomaiviti group, central and southern Lau, the Moala group, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands. Elsewhere conditions will be partly cloudy with isolated brief showers and the chance of afternoon or evening thunderstorms. Isolated heavy falls are expected, especially in the afternoon and evening.
Across the main centres, occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms are forecast for Navua, Suva and Nausori (min 23°C, max 31°C). Western and northern towns should also prepare for rain and a few storms: Nadi/Lautoka/Ba (min 23°C, max 32°C), Tavua/Rakiraki (min 23°C, max 32°C), Labasa (min 21°C, max 32°C) and Savusavu (min 23°C, max 32°C). Taveuni, Nabouwalu, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups and Kadavu can expect similar conditions with daytime temperatures generally in the low 30s and overnight lows around 22–23°C.
Moderate east to northeast winds are expected, with seas moderate to rough in exposed areas. Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding in low‑lying and flood‑prone areas, so residents in susceptible locations should take appropriate precautions and avoid driving through flooded roads. Boaters and those planning coastal activities should be mindful of the moderate to rough sea state.
Looking ahead to Tuesday, a cloudy spell with showers is expected to continue over Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri, Ra‑Rakiraki, Kadavu, parts of southern Bua and Cakaudrove, Taveuni, and the Lau and Lomaiviti groups. Elsewhere conditions will be mostly fine apart from the chance of afternoon or evening showers and isolated thunderstorms with possible heavy falls. Rotuma will see cloudy periods with some showers today under a moderate easterly flow and moderate seas, with an outlook for occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms on Tuesday (min 24°C, max 32°C).
