The iconic 4R Stadium in Ba is about to enter a new chapter, as it becomes the official home ground for Bula FC, marking a historic moment as Fiji’s first professional football club. As anticipation builds for the inaugural OFC Professional League, which is set to kick off in less than two weeks, local fans can look forward to a thrilling atmosphere at the stadium during round 5, scheduled from April 11 to 18.
Establishing a strong home field advantage is crucial in professional sports, and for Bula FC to mirror the successes of the well-regarded rugby franchise Fijian Drua, creating an energetic home base for their supporters is paramount. The Drua have proven the importance of a local stronghold, accumulating an impressive record of 10 wins from 12 matches at Lautoka’s Churchill Park. For Bula FC to transform Ba’s famed 4R Stadium into a similar stronghold, the support of the community will be essential.
Star player Roy Krishna, a key signing and a renowned figure in Fijian football, has reached out to supporters to rally behind the team, emphasizing the vital role their backing will play during this inaugural season. “This is the first professional football club in the country, so we are asking our supporters to come out and back the boys and be the 12th man on the field,” Krishna stated.
He recognizes how significant fan presence can be during matches, suggesting that their encouragement can serve as a vital source of inspiration for the players. Krishna also urged Fijians living abroad to lend their support, whether in Fiji or during games in Auckland, Australia, and beyond. “I’m just asking all Fijian supporters in Fiji and when we go to Auckland, Australia, and other places to support the boys, be our 12th man because we need them,” he expressed.
Bula FC has an exciting lineup, with three home matches in round 5: the team will face Papua New Guinea’s Hekari FC on Sunday, April 12, South Melbourne FC on Wednesday, April 15, and Auckland FC on Saturday, April 18. As the inaugural matches approach, the momentum builds for both the team and their passionate fans, highlighting the bright potential for football in Fiji.
