Twenty-year-old Raina Kumar triumphed in the Women’s Division of the Denarau Pro-Am Open held yesterday. As a first-year MBBS student at Fiji National University, Kumar expressed her excitement over her victory despite her busy schedule. “I don’t really have time to play this year since I’m a first-year MBBS student at FNU. This is my third competition, but I feel good after winning the Denarau Open,” she said. Kumar achieved a gross score of 73.

In the Professional Division, Abid Hussein claimed the championship with a gross score of 69, while Taitusi secured the second position with a score of 71.

In the Overall Gross Men category, Shakeel Pillay took home first place with a gross score of 73, and David Rickey stood out in the Overall Net Men category with an impressive net score of 66.

Rakesh Chand was victorious in the A Grade competition, finishing with a gross score of 68. Indra Warjan and Yasir Ahmed followed closely behind with scores of 70.

In B Grade, Damien Chan won with a gross score of 68, while Paras Ram Mama and Alex Pattison finished second and third with scores of 71 and 72, respectively.

The C Grade division was marked by Dharmesh Mani’s strong performance with a score of 68, followed by Mislin Khan and Nathan Cook with scores of 69 and 70.

Lusiana Leqa showcased her talent by securing the Overall Net Women title with an outstanding net score of 61. In the Women’s category, Samita Kumar and Mrs. Kwon finished in first and second place with net scores of 70 and 73.

This event highlights not only the skill and determination of young athletes like Kumar but also the supportive golfing community in Fiji. With her busy academic schedule, Kumar’s achievement serves as an inspiring reminder that dedication and passion can lead to success, even amidst challenges.
