Recently, Weightlifting Fiji has seen an influx of young talent, and head coach Henry Elder is optimistic about their potential. Several newcomers in the program have already demonstrated promising abilities during training sessions, leading Elder to believe that fans might soon witness the emergence of the next big star, akin to Taniela Rainibogi.

These young athletes are part of Elder’s development squad, which includes lifters as young as those in primary school. This approach reflects the federation’s dedication to cultivating talent from the grassroots level and ensuring a sustainable future in the sport.

Elder expressed excitement about the bright future ahead, stating, “You can expect to see some very exciting athletes emerge from this young squad in the coming years. Even though they are very young and new to the sport, they have shown strong performances in training. I’m excited to see what 2026 holds for us and these young lifters.”

Weightlifting Fiji recently concluded its last training session of the year at the Rabuka Gym in Suva, with plans to resume preparations for the 2026 season shortly. The development of these young athletes not only promises to strengthen the team’s performance but also contributes to the growth of weightlifting in Fiji, encouraging more youth participation in sports.
