In Labasa, Vasitia Waqaninavatu has made a remarkable achievement by becoming the head girl of Waiqele Primary School for 2025, marking a significant milestone for her family. Hailing from Nakama Village, she proudly shares that she is the first in her family to attain such a leadership role. Vasitia attributes her success to her hard work and prayer during her time as deputy head girl, expressing her commitment to maintaining integrity within the school environment: “Being a leader isn’t always easy since we can’t please everyone, but I strive to uphold integrity in our school environment.”
As the third of five siblings, Vasitia is also focused on guiding her peers towards excellent academic performance in Year Eight. Her counterpart, Kreeshal Kumar, who has been appointed as head boy, expressed astonishment at his new title, having not anticipated winning despite his role as deputy head boy last year. He credited his father, the family’s primary provider, for supporting his educational dreams, as Kreeshal aspires to be an aerospace engineer.
Both students will be leading a team of 25 prefects responsible for the conduct of 130 students from Year One to Year Eight. Their leadership journey reflects a broader narrative seen across schools in Fiji, where young leaders are committed to achieving academic excellence while also managing personal and collective challenges.
