Twenty-year-old Raina Kumar celebrated a significant milestone in her career by clinching the Women’s Division title at the Denarau Pro-Am Open yesterday. Despite her demanding schedule as a first-year MBBS student at Fiji National University, Kumar managed to secure her victory with a commendable gross score of 73.
“I don’t really have time to play this year since I’m a first-year MBBS student at FNU. This is my third competition, but I feel good after winning the Denarau Open,” Kumar shared, reflecting her enthusiasm for the achievement.
In the Professional Division, Abid Hussein triumphed with a gross score of 69, followed closely by Taitusi, who scored 71. The Overall Gross Men’s competition saw Shakeel Pillay take the title with a gross score of 73, while David Rickey excelled in the Overall Net Men category, securing victory with a net score of 66.
The A Grade competition was highlighted by Rakesh Chand’s performance, resulting in a first-place finish with a gross score of 68. Indra Warjan followed closely with a score of 70, along with Yasir Ahmed, who also achieved the same score but finished third on countback.
In B Grade, Damien Chan emerged victorious with a gross score of 68, while Paras Ram Mama and Alex Pattison rounded out the top three with scores of 71 and 72, respectively. C Grade showcased Dharmesh Mani’s prowess as he secured first place with a score of 68, with Mislin Khan and Nathan Cook coming in second and third with scores of 69 and 70.
Additionally, Lusiana Leqa distinguished herself with an impressive net score of 61, earning the Overall Net Women title. In the Women’s division, Samita Kumar and Mrs. Kwon followed suit, finishing with net scores of 70 and 73.
