Anare Tabakaucoro, the promising flyhalf for the SportsWorld Fijian under-20 rugby team, is set to embark on a significant journey from high school rugby to the international arena. As the team gears up for the Oceania Rugby U20 Challenge in New Zealand next month, Tabakaucoro is embracing the opportunity to showcase his talents and solidify his place within the squad.

Having previously played a crucial role in the Deans championship victory for Queen Victoria School, Tabakaucoro recognizes that transitioning to this level of competitive play presents unique challenges. He acknowledges the intense competition for positions, particularly for the flyhalf spot, but remains determined to elevate his game and build a foundation for his future in Fijian rugby.

“Coming straight from high school, it’s hard playing alongside players from different schools, especially with the fierce competition for spots in the team,” Tabakaucoro remarked. Nevertheless, he expressed enthusiasm for the collective learning experience shared among teammates from various backgrounds.

Being selected for the U20 squad is a significant milestone for many players, as it opens doors to future opportunities with the senior Flying Fijians team. Tabakaucoro, who has long admired the senior team, is eager to contribute to the team’s legacy and work towards his dream of wearing the national jersey.

Despite the pressures of competing against more seasoned players, especially in the highly contested position of flyhalf, Tabakaucoro’s resolve is unwavering. “The competition for flyhalf is tough, with players who are better than me at the moment. But I’m going to work hard to improve and earn my spot,” he stated.

The atmosphere within the U20 camp is described as positive, with all players motivated and excited about the upcoming challenges. “Everyone is just happy to be here,” Tabakaucoro added, highlighting the teamwork and camaraderie that form the backbone of the squad.

As the Fijian U20 team prepares for the Oceania Rugby U20 Challenge, Tabakaucoro and his teammates are focused on making a lasting impression on the international stage. With dedication and hard work, they aim to make their country proud, fostering hope for a bright future in Fijian rugby.
