Businesses at Yatulau Arcade have opened their doors to the public, bringing fresh commercial activity to the heart of Suva. This development marks a significant moment for the city’s retail scene, although concerns about petty crime still loom over local merchants.
Among the new businesses is Garsen Pte Ltd, an electronics retailer that is making its first move beyond the Western Division. Laisani Xu, the Suva manager, expressed pride in this new achievement, stating, “This is our second location, and I am happy that we have expanded to Suva City.” Garsen has been a staple in Fiji for nearly a decade, with its flagship store located in Nadi. Customers can look forward to a wide array of technology products, including both Apple and Android devices.
While the opening is a positive development for the community, Ms. Xu highlighted that petty theft creates challenges for Suva’s businesses. “The only setback for us is thieves,” she remarked, detailing the company’s implementation of a strict no-shoe-no-entry policy to combat shoplifting.
Despite these hurdles, the Garsen team remains hopeful and focused on establishing a strong customer base in Suva. The opening of Yatulau Arcade signifies not only new opportunities for businesses but also a chance for the community to rally and support local retail in these challenging times.
