In the village of Tuvuca on Vanuabalavu, residents are actively working to develop their community by selling watermelons. The profits generated from the sale will be used to purchase a solar battery for the village.

This initiative is a collaborative effort involving both men and women from the village, who are committed to improving their community. Ruci Tabaiwalu, a local leader, highlighted that they aim to raise $6,000 through these sales as part of their endeavor.

Ruci noted that the project began during a village meeting, where they recognized the need for a better source of income, especially since many villagers have limited access to reliable financial resources. The watermelon sales are seen as an essential starting point for economic development in the area, serving to provide residents with a sustainable source of income. This undertaking not only supports financial needs but also promotes unity and collaboration among community members.

The village has been preparing for the sales diligently, with over 100 locals participating in this project. Additionally, they have reached out to the government for assistance, although response has yet to be received. Ruci expressed gratitude for the communal spirit and the support from God, believing that their combined efforts will lead to further advancements in the village.

This commitment to enhancing their livelihoods showcases the resilience and determination of the people in Tuvuca, and their initiative could serve as an inspiring model for other communities striving for improvement.
