Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Filimoni Vosarogo, recently visited Lakeba in the Lau Group, emphasizing the need for public servants to serve their communities with dedication and integrity. During his visit, which occurred on Wednesday, he commissioned new borehole water projects for the villages of Waitabu and Nasaqalau, aimed at providing clean and safe drinking water.

Vosarogo reminded civil servants of their essential role in delivering services that significantly impact the lives of local residents, stating, “Serving the people means understanding their needs and delivering with diligence.” He also underscored the importance of keeping water sources clean, particularly due to the rising cases of dengue fever in Fiji, urging local water committees to maintain vigilance over their water systems to prevent potential health hazards.

The minister’s tour also included visits to Narocivo Village, Ratu Finau Secondary School, Salia Village, and Tubou Village, highlighting his commitment to engaging with various community sectors. This initiative marks part of a broader government effort to enhance infrastructure and improve public health across Fiji, reflecting ongoing actions aimed at uplifting communities through better access to essential services.

The development of reliable water sources is imperative as it not only reduces the risk of waterborne diseases but also supports overall community welfare and resilience. With the commissioning of these borehole projects, there is optimism that Lakeba’s residents will experience significant health improvements and enhanced quality of life, paving the way for sustainable development.

In recent months, similar initiatives have been reported across Fiji, including the successful implementation of groundwater projects in Narocivo and Salia, which have provided residents access to safe drinking water and contributed to declines in waterborne illnesses. These advancements inspire hope for continued growth and better living conditions for all Fijians, reinforcing the government’s dedication to ensuring no community is marginalized in access to vital resources.
