The TEMC Warriors are gearing up for the Vatulele 7s tournament, which kicked off yesterday at the Vatulele District School grounds. The team’s coach, Semi Kunatani—nicknamed “The Beast”—shared insights into their preparation process for this two-day event.
Kunatani explained that the team had recently returned from the Fiji Bitter Wairiki 7s Carnival held in Taveuni, a four-day tournament that required significant physical effort. With limited recovery time, the Warriors managed only a single day of training before heading to Vatulele. Kunatani acknowledged this tight schedule as a challenge but emphasized that the team must not use it as an excuse for their performance.
An additional hurdle faced by the Warriors is the distance between players’ homes, which makes it harder to gather and practice as a cohesive unit. Kunatani noted that this geographic challenge plays a role in their preparation.
Looking ahead, the team is focused on competing in the next leg of the Fiji Bitter 7s series, which will take place in Vanua Levu early next year.
In summary, despite the logistical challenges and fatigue following their recent tournament, the TEMC Warriors are determined to perform well at the Vatulele 7s and are already planning for future competitions. The resilience and dedication of the team, especially in the face of obstacles, showcase their commitment to the sport and can inspire other teams facing similar circumstances.
