The Wardens Gold men’s rugby team is gearing up for the Fiji Bitter Wairiki 7s, emphasizing their commitment not only to the sport but also to their fellow officers who are covering their shifts back home. As the team prepares for the second leg of the Fiji Bitter 7s series, which kicks off today, Coach Viliame Veikoso articulated the motivation behind their participation.

“We are coming over and taking part with the aim of winning,” Veikoso stated. He further emphasized the importance of their performance, noting that the team’s journey is undertaken with the understanding that their colleagues remain on duty during this time. “We are not coming with the intent of taking a break but to perform to the best of our ability and win,” he added.

The Wardens Gold team boasts a balanced roster, featuring a mix of seasoned players from last year along with new talent selected this season. Coach Veikoso expressed his gratitude towards the Fiji Corrections Service and the families, colleagues, and loved ones who support the team.

The team made their way to Taveuni aboard the MV Lady Daya, a vessel operated by Goundar Shipping Limited, departing Suva on Tuesday night. As anticipation builds for the tournament, teams to watch include the Wardens Gold, Devo Babas, Yamacia, Army Green, Village Boys, and Y-IS Kava Vacalea, the latter having won the first leg of the series by defeating Kava Vacalea 15-12 at the Yalovata 7s two weeks ago.

With the Wairiki 7s running until Saturday, the atmosphere promises to be electrifying as these teams take to the field, driven both by competition and camaraderie. This spirit of unity among players may enhance their performance, creating a memorable experience for both participants and spectators alike.
