Authorities are advising the public to steer clear of the Walu Bay area due to a fuel leak detected at an oil tank located opposite Paradise Beverages, near the Mobil and Total service stations. Emergency teams from the National Fire Authority are actively working on-site to manage the leak and mitigate any risks of escalation.

In light of the situation, police have established cordons at entry points into Walu Bay from both the Suva and Lami sides to ensure the safety of the public and facilitate the responders’ efforts without disruption.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Kasiano Vusonilawe, emphasized the importance of public cooperation and adherence to instructions provided by authorities at the scene.

Officials will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates once the emergency response is stabilized and the area is deemed safe for public access. The collaborative efforts of emergency services demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding the community and addressing potential threats swiftly.
