Wallaroos coach Jo Yapp has unveiled a dynamic 40-player squad ahead of the team’s first Test against Fijiana, set for May 3, 2025. This squad features 11 uncapped players, highlighting a new chapter in Australian women’s rugby. Among the fresh faces is Sevens sensation Charlotte Caslick, who is transitioning to the 15s format.
The depth of the squad is further amplified by the inclusion of Tia Hinds and Bienne Terita, who will miss the upcoming SVNS Final in Los Angeles. Following a breakout season in Super Rugby Women’s, NSW Waratahs’ Faliki Pohiva stands out as a notable new face. The ACT Brumbies contribute with four new players: Katalina Amosa, Martha Fua, Manua Moleka, and Ella Ryan.
In a move to bolster team continuity, returning players like Ruby Anderson, Ashley Fernandez, and Waiaria Ellis rejoin the squad after participating in last year’s campaigns. Additionally, experienced Wallaroos players Emily Chancellor, Adiana Talakai, and Bree-Anna Browne will return from injuries, bringing veteran presence to the mix.
Coach Yapp expressed optimism about the squad’s composition, stating, “After a very competitive and successful Super Rugby Women’s competition, we have selected a squad that can continue the momentum built off the WXV 2 win last year.” With seven Test matches scheduled over the next three months, Yapp emphasized the importance of preparation in advance of the World Cup.
The team will be narrowed down to 30 players for the Fijiana Test, with a larger squad of 36 to participate in the Pacific Four series. They will host three home matches, competing against New Zealand, USA, and Canada.
This squad reflects a promising mix of youth and experience, and Yapp’s approach is aimed at fostering growth and connection among players. The upcoming matches present a significant opportunity for the Wallaroos to build on their skills and showcase the progress of women’s rugby in Australia, aligning with the growing interest and investment in the sport.
As the Wallaroos prepare, there’s a renewed sense of hope and determination within the team to elevate their performance and achieve greater success in the coming matches.
