Fiji Airways men’s 7s player Waisea Nacuqu has been called up to fill the spot vacated by All Blacks representative Gilles Kaka, who withdrew from the Mike Friday Select 7s due to medical reasons. Kaka has been advised to undergo surgery, unfortunately ending his participation in the upcoming tournament.
Organizers expressed their disappointment over Kaka’s absence but are thrilled to welcome Nacuqu, known for his explosive speed and remarkable try-scoring abilities, into the squad. His extensive international sevens experience positions him as a strong asset for the team.
Coach Mike Friday emphasized Nacuqu’s capabilities, stating that his inclusion ensures the Mike Friday Select 7s maintains a competitive edge as they gear up for the 2026 McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s. “Waisea is a proven match-winner at the highest level of the game. His speed, instincts, and professionalism make him an ideal fit for this group, and we’re excited to have him join the squad,” said Friday.
The tournament organizers have extended their best wishes to Gilles Kaka for a swift recovery while welcoming Nacuqu into the Select 7s team as preparations unfold. The McDonald’s Mike Friday Select 7s will face off against a world-class lineup at the 2026 tournament, promising fans the high-energy, attacking rugby that they have come to expect from the team.
