Villagers from Wainiyabia in Serua are reaching out to the public, urging them to dispose of their rubbish responsibly while visiting the area’s picnic spots. Local resident Ben Nayacalevu highlighted an alarming increase in litter left behind by visitors from outside the community, particularly noted during peak holiday seasons.
Nayacalevu expressed concern over the careless waste disposal, which is damaging the natural environment of the area. “We are urging members of the public this festive season to dispose of their rubbish properly,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of respecting and protecting the environment. The local community has reported a rise in plastic waste, food packaging, and various other types of litter left in popular picnic areas.
Continued littering poses a significant threat to nearby waterways and marine life, possibly leading to long-term environmental damage. Mr. Nayacalevu implores visitors to consider their impact and encourages them to either take their rubbish home or utilize designated disposal bins when available.
By fostering a sense of community responsibility and environmental stewardship, the residents hope to preserve the beauty of their natural surroundings for future generations. With collective efforts, it is possible to maintain a clean and healthy environment for both locals and visitors alike.
