Former national football player Kolinio Sivoki led his Wailevu side to a narrow victory against local rugby powerhouse Tabadamu, winning 7-5 in their opening pool match at Thompson Park. This match took place during a highly competitive domestic 7s tournament.
Sivoki’s entrance in the second half invigorated Wailevu, a team currently coached by Valerio Nawatu, another former Fiji soccer representative. Wailevu’s success in this match is notable, particularly against a Tabadamu side featuring experienced players such as Menausi Qiodravu, Luke Lutunavanua, and Netani Nadavo.
In a recent interview with FBC Sports, Sivoki shared his dual commitment to sports, mentioning that he plays club rugby on Saturdays and is set to take the field for Navua against Nadroga in the National Football League on Sunday.
This victory for Wailevu reflects not only the team’s growing strength but also the impact of community-driven sportsmanship in Fiji. The collaborative effort of players relying on local support and training echoed the inspirational journeys of similar grassroots teams within the region, demonstrating that dedication can lead to positive outcomes, both in sports and community engagement.
As the tournament progresses, hopes remain high for Wailevu as they showcase their hard work and determination to succeed in rugby while building on their community spirit through sport.
