The body of 19-year-old Avick Avinesh Chand was recovered today around 2:30 PM along the Wailevu River in Labasa. Reports indicate that Avick was fishing with his father when he lost his footing and fell into the river, vanishing from sight.
The incident was reported to the Labasa Police Station over the weekend. Initially, search operations were halted due to hazardous conditions, including strong currents and murky waters. However, these efforts resumed today, ultimately leading to the recovery of Avick’s body.
Tragically, he is now considered one of the latest drowning victims in the nation, underscoring the need for awareness and safety during recreational activities near water bodies. This unfortunate event serves as a reminder of the inherent risks associated with fishing and outdoor activities, particularly in unpredictable environments.
