Vinod Patel has reaffirmed its dedication to supporting grassroots rugby in Ba by renewing its sponsorship with the Ba Rugby Union (BRU). This renewed partnership brings forth two exciting tournaments: the Vinod Patel Cup, which will feature Premier 16 teams, and the Inox Trophy for lower division teams. The primary goal of these competitions is to bolster rugby engagement within local communities.

Gaby Kautoga, the Secretary of BRU, emphasized the importance of club rugby as a cornerstone for community involvement, explaining, “Club rugby is why we are here – to engage the villages from around the province and to bring communities together.” He extended his gratitude to Vinod Patel for their vital support, which is indispensable for the continued growth of rugby at the grassroots level.

Rahul Amin, the CEO of Vinod Patel, shared his enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting the sport’s rich cultural significance in Fiji. He noted that this partnership aims to empower local communities and cultivate emerging talent through the newly introduced competitions. This investment is designed to create a platform for local athletes, aiding in the development of the future of Fijian rugby.

Notably, Kautoga revealed that the BRU has seen a welcoming response with nearly 40 teams registered for this year’s club championships, suggesting an increase in enthusiasm and participation. The tournament is set to officially begin on March 15, slightly delayed from its original schedule.

The launch event for the Vinod Patel Cup and the Inox Trophy will feature a march of team captains, commencing from Varoka Police Post along Main Street to the Vinod Patel store. This will serve as a vibrant display of community spirit and support for local rugby.

Such initiatives not only alleviate some of the financial burdens faced by the union, as previously experienced with expenses and hosting matches, but they also foster inclusivity and provide young athletes with essential opportunities. The investment in grassroots rugby signals a hopeful and promising future for the sport in Fiji, encouraging unity and development within local communities.
