Fiji’s football scene is buzzing with excitement as Veleni Rasorewa joins the roster of Bula FC ahead of the inaugural OFC Professional League, set to kick off next month. The promising striker, hailing from Tailevu, has made a name for himself as one of Lautoka’s most dynamic young talents and becomes the sixth addition to the Bula FC squad.

Rasorewa’s journey in football began during his eighth year at Dreketi Sangam Primary School in Lautoka, where his potential was recognized by coach Sunil Kumar during the under-15 national team trials. This pivotal moment set him on a path filled with hard work and determination. He reflects on this latest move as the start of a new chapter in his career, expressing eagerness and readiness to embrace the challenges that lie ahead. “This is the kind of opportunity you dream about, and I’ve worked hard for this,” he noted. Despite being young, Rasorewa remains committed to personal growth and aims to give his all to Bula FC.

Having steadily advanced through the ranks, Rasorewa has played for Lautoka’s youth teams before earning his place in the senior squad. He has also represented Fiji on the international stage, having participated in the U17 qualifiers last year and making strides in the World Cup campaign this year, which has provided him with invaluable experience at a young age.

The OFC Professional League promises to elevate the standard of football in the Pacific with eight clubs from seven nations all competing for glory. The first circuit round will take place in New Zealand, featuring clubs like Auckland FC and South Island United, alongside Australia’s South Melbourne FC, the only non-OFC team in the league. Bula FC will join teams like Papua New Guinea’s PNG Hekari FC, Tahiti United from Tahiti, Vanuatu United FC, and Solomon Kings FC from the Solomon Islands.

This league, running from January to May, will consist of multiple circuit rounds, with each club playing at least 17 matches culminating in semi-finals and a final to crown the first-ever OFC champion. The league’s debut marks a historic milestone for Pacific football, generating hope and enthusiasm for the future of the sport in the region.
