The controversial influencer obtained his Vanuatu citizenship through an investment scheme, which permits individuals to gain citizenship by investing at least $130,000 in the Pacific nation.
Concerns surrounding the fast-track citizenship program have escalated, particularly regarding its vulnerability to misuse by individuals with questionable backgrounds. A spokesperson for the Vanuatu government confirmed that they are “definitely looking into” Tate’s case and emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that citizenship is not granted to individuals involved in illicit activities. Kiery Manassah, a government representative, stated, “The government does not want to encourage people of questionable backgrounds to be granted citizenship.”
This scrutiny comes after the European Union revoked Vanuatu’s visa-free access due to security concerns related to its citizenship-by-investment program. The program has been used by individuals connected to organized crime, prompting further action from the Vanuatu government to maintain the integrity of its immigration system.
Additionally, in recent months, Vanuatu has canceled the citizenship of other individuals found to have engaged in fraudulent behavior when applying for passports.
