The Presidency of the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM) has announced that Vanuatu will officially become the 112th State Party to the Convention, starting 1 March 2026. This significant milestone was celebrated in a statement by the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, which serves as the Presidency for the Third Review Conference of States Parties.

In their statement, they warmly welcomed Vanuatu’s decision, noting that this accession bolsters global efforts to combat the use of cluster munitions. The Presidency emphasized that Vanuatu’s membership underscores a growing international commitment to mitigate the humanitarian crises caused by these weapons and to reinforce humanitarian norms globally.

“By joining this vital instrument, Vanuatu has demonstrated its dedication to advancing the objectives of the Convention,” the statement read, highlighting the importance of collective action in eliminating the suffering caused by such munitions. The Presidency also expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Vanuatu to ensure the effective implementation of the Convention and to inspire other nations to join in these efforts.

The statement concluded with congratulations to Vanuatu for this important step, recognizing it as a valued addition to the Convention community.
