Residents of Nasinu can look forward to continued efforts towards creating a public recreational space, despite ongoing evaluations of Valelevu Ground as a candidate for a new national hospital. Local Government Minister Maciu Naulumisa reassured the community that their interests will be considered, as the area was originally designated for recreational purposes.

Naulumisa emphasized the importance of the national hospital, which aims to meet broader public health needs, and noted that the Nasinu Town Council is backing the assessment of Valelevu Ground. The Ministry of Health has brought in consultants to assess various potential locations for the hospital, with Valelevu Ground having been selected for more in-depth examination based on its technical merits.

While the focus on this significant national development continues, the Nasinu Town Council is committed to identifying other options for sufficient recreational facilities for the community. Valelevu Ground has previously faced a variety of development proposals, including a potential international stadium in 2015, and discussions earlier this year revealed that the site is not financially viable as it stands, leading to considerations of a mixed-use commercial and recreational development.

Naulumisa expressed that achieving a balance between national infrastructure initiatives and community recreational spaces is a key priority. As consultations progress, this commitment to local needs reinforces the dedication to not only administrative planning but also to the well-being of Nasinu’s residents. The ongoing dialogue highlights a hopeful perspective that both healthcare and leisure can coexist and thrive within the community.
