The University of the South Pacific (USP) has addressed recent discussions on social media regarding its Interim Management Group, emphasizing that this arrangement was put in place to maintain leadership continuity following the end of the Vice-Chancellor’s term in September 2025.
In a formal statement, USP explained that the establishment of the Interim Management Group was approved by the university’s Council to ensure effective governance while the search for a new Vice-Chancellor is actively underway. The university reassured stakeholders that this temporary structure does not conflict with the institution’s Charter or Statutes and affirmed that the Interim Management Group is still accountable to the Council.
Preparations for appointing the next Vice-Chancellor commenced in May 2025, after a decision by the Council to initiate the recruitment process. Currently, the position is being publicly advertised, and the recruitment process is ongoing.
This proactive approach signifies USP’s commitment to transparent governance and continuity in leadership as it navigates this transitional period. The university aims to ensure that the best candidate is selected to guide its future endeavors.
