The University of the South Pacific (USP) Council will convene later this month in the Cook Islands to address allegations directed at Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Pal Ahluwalia. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro confirmed the meeting will establish the ‘Terms of Reference’ for the associated investigation.
During this meeting, council members are also expected to make decisions regarding the Pro-Chancellor’s position at the university, which is currently filled by Dr. Heila Heine in an acting capacity. Radrodro noted that the council has already conducted the first round of voting, with a second round anticipated to follow soon.
“This is an anticipated matter for all council members, including the Acting Pro-Chancellor and the Secretariat, along with legal advice that will guide members on the Pro-Chancellor’s appointment status,” Radrodro stated.
This meeting marks a significant step in ensuring the integrity of the university’s leadership and will likely provide clarity on these important issues. The resolution of these allegations and the confirmation of leadership positions are essential to maintaining stability within the institution. With the council’s commitment to a thorough investigation and transparent decision-making, stakeholders can remain hopeful for a constructive outcome that fosters trust and accountability at USP.
