The Uso Tasi team is diligently preparing for their first appearance at the Coral Coast Sevens, set to take place in Sigatoka on Thursday. The Solomon Islands squad earned their spot in the tournament by defeating Yalovata Spearhead in the final qualifying match during the Super Sevens tournament last December.

Since securing their qualification, the team has been focusing heavily on training, participating in rigorous scrimmages with local teams to enhance their skills and readiness for the big event. They are currently based in Rawaqa, staying with former Fiji Sevens representative and Coral Coast Sevens tournament director Radal Kamea, who facilitated their introduction to the Marist Rugby Club.

The Marist Rugby Club has been instrumental in supporting Uso Tasi by providing coach Viliame Turagavou to guide them through their upcoming challenges. Additionally, to further strengthen the squad and contribute to the development of the Solomon Islands players, several local athletes have been invited to join the team.

Jerry Tengemoana, the founder of Uso Tasi Rugby Club, shared his vision of developing rugby in the Solomon Islands since establishing the team in 2024. He expressed anticipation for the competitive landscape of the Coral Coast Sevens but emphasized the importance of the experience for the players. “This tournament will be a fantastic opportunity for growth, especially for those who have not participated in the Coral Coast before,” he remarked.

Among the players eager to compete is Keli Tuidravu, a Bua native who shone during the Super Sevens tournament. He is enthusiastic about making his Coral Coast debut, having received an invitation to play alongside Uso Tasi for this year’s event.

This debut at the Coral Coast Sevens not only highlights the determination of the Uso Tasi team but also marks an important step in fostering rugby talent in the Solomon Islands, showcasing the potential for growth and development in the sport within the region. The collaboration with local clubs and experienced players embodies a hopeful spirit of camaraderie and skill enhancement, setting a promising tone for the tournament ahead.
