Vodafone Fiji is urging all commuters to upgrade their eTransport cards by June 30 as part of a nationwide initiative aimed at enhancing the public transportation experience. The company reassured customers that it is actively addressing several concerns related to card top-up, redemption, and balance transfer issues that have arisen with the new card system.
To facilitate the upgrade, Vodafone emphasized that first-time card registrations and the first replacement will remain free of charge. However, a $3 fee will be applied for upgrading any additional old cards beyond the first two, and a similar fee will apply for non-upgrade replacements, which includes lost or damaged cards, once homeowners have exceeded their two free card replacements.
In light of feedback from parents about the difficulties their children face when navigating the system for fare redemption, Vodafone clarified that only the new eTransport cards are redeemable directly on buses. Older cards will need to be redeemed through authorized outlets such as Vodafone, Valuefone, and others. This upgrade is expected to provide parents and their children with a more streamlined and convenient way to manage fare payments and checks.
Vodafone is aware that adjusting to the new eTransport system may pose challenges for customers but is committed to ensuring a smooth transition for all commuters. The ongoing improvements are part of a broader effort to modernize Fiji’s public transport infrastructure, reflecting a commitment to technology-driven solutions that will ultimately provide a more efficient, accessible, and user-friendly experience for all Fijians.
Historically, transitions like these have spurred enhancements in public transport, as seen with previous rollouts that introduced features like offline top-ups and improved service reliability in response to identified issues. The future of Fiji’s public transportation system appears promising, with a focus on continued improvements that may enhance the overall commuting experience for everyone.
