In his New Year’s national address, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka conveyed heartfelt wishes for a prosperous 2025, encouraging Fijians to embrace unity, hope, and resilience as the country progresses. He marked this year as significant, celebrating Fiji’s 55th anniversary of independence, known as the Emerald Jubilee.

The Prime Minister urged citizens to reflect on the journey of 2024, a year he characterized as one of resilience. He encouraged Fijians to draw inspiration from the nation’s advancements while preparing for future challenges. Rabuka expressed gratitude towards civil servants, first responders, and defense forces for their unwavering dedication over the past year. He also acknowledged the contributions of Fiji’s international missions toward enhancing the nation’s global reputation.

Addressing the political upheavals of recent years, Rabuka reaffirmed the government’s commitment to healing and reconciliation through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which he sees as essential for promoting forgiveness and national unity. Furthermore, he placed a strong emphasis on poverty alleviation and outlined a “one village at a time” strategy to enhance the livelihoods of the people.

The Coalition Government’s initiatives include substantial investments in housing, sanitation, and infrastructure aimed at establishing a solid foundation for long-term economic and social development.

This address presents a hopeful vision for Fiji as it prepares to celebrate a pivotal moment in its history. The emphasis on unity and resilience, combined with tangible commitments to social and economic growth, showcases an optimistic outlook for the nation’s future.
