Aspen Medical has firmly denied allegations from the Construction Energy, Timber, Workers Union of Fiji (CETWUF) regarding a lack of communication between the two entities. The organization emphasized that they have consistently engaged with union representatives.
In a statement, Aspen Medical revealed that in October 2024, they invited CETWUF to present workplace concerns raised by its members. Although issues such as delays in overtime and public holiday payments were brought to light by CETWUF, Aspen Medical assured that these matters were already being addressed.
Executive Director of Culture and Performance, Mr. Edwin Aisake, stated that the union has been informed about the progress of these issues on seven separate occasions. He reassured stakeholders that the healthcare services at their hospitals would remain uninterrupted, even in the event of a strike, underscoring that the health and well-being of both patients and staff are their top priorities.
Aspen Medical is currently awaiting clarification from government officials regarding specific provisions of its contract, especially concerning employees who transitioned from government to the organization after it took over operations of the two hospitals. The company indicated that once they receive the necessary clarifications, they will continue their dialogue with the unions, including CETWUF.
This situation not only highlights Aspen Medical’s commitment to transparency and communication with its workforce but also reassures the public about the continuity of healthcare services amidst labor negotiations. It’s a reminder of the importance of dialogue in workplace relations, paving the way for constructive resolutions in the future.
