Members of the Construction Energy and Timber Workers Union of Fiji who are employed by Aspen Medical have decisively chosen to pursue strike action, as announced by union secretary general John Paul. The members are taking this step due to Aspen Medical’s failure to address their Log of Claims.

John Paul noted that the workers are seeking a pay rise and improvements to their working conditions. They had previously approached Aspen with concerns regarding the non-payment of these entitlements several months ago, but have yet to receive a response.

There is growing frustration among the union members, who feel compelled to move forward with their strike plans. The union is currently awaiting feedback from the Ministry of Employment Productivity and Workplace Relations regarding the report from the recent secret ballot.

While the situation appears tense, it also highlights the union’s commitment to advocating for workers’ rights and the importance of dialogue between employers and employees. The hope is that a resolution can be found that meets the needs of the workers at Aspen Medical, fostering an environment of cooperation and understanding moving forward.

In summary, the union members are gearing up for strike action due to unmet demands for better pay and working conditions, with the potential for further dialogue with authorities to resolve the ongoing issues.
