The UB40 Featuring Ali Campbell Concert held in Nadi has been hailed as a significant triumph, drawing around 8,000 music enthusiasts to Prince Charles Park on January 30. Despite facing vendor-related challenges, particularly concerning kava and food services, organizers described the event as a valuable learning opportunity for future gatherings.

Event director Moe Coffey noted the concert’s success reflected Fiji’s strong passion for live music and the lasting influence of UB40’s tunes over the past four decades. He expressed his delight at the enthusiastic turnout, stating, “Fans from across generations came together to enjoy an unforgettable night of music and celebration.”

Coffey recognized the contributions of supporting acts like Katchafire, Paradise Rootz, and Nicky & Ouvacast, who delivered memorable performances, including a touching tribute to the late George “Fiji” Veikoso.

Although the event faced feedback concerning shortages and logistical challenges related to some food and kava vendors, Coffey assured that these issues would be addressed in future event planning. He acknowledged that last-minute ticket purchases often complicate attendance forecasting, directly impacting vendor staffing and stock levels. “Striking the right balance between having enough vendors without oversupplying is an ongoing challenge,” he said.

Coffey emphasized the commitment of organizers to adapt and improve experiences for concertgoers and encouraged the community to support local artists, especially in light of some negative social media commentary. The concert served not only as a celebration of music but also highlighted the vibrant spirit of Fiji’s cultural scene, leaving audiences eager for more such events in the future.
