Two separate house fires took place in Nadi on Boxing Day, raising concerns about fire safety during the festive season. The first incident occurred shortly after 8:30 a.m. at Carreras, Votualevu. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a three-bedroom concrete home fully engulfed in flames. Sadly, the house was completely lost, with damages estimated at around $80,000. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, and fire investigators have begun their work to ascertain the cause of the blaze.
The second fire was reported at 10:00 p.m. in Nawejikuma, Nawaka. When responders arrived minutes later, a two-bedroom house was already ablaze. Thankfully, the property was vacant at the time, but it suffered about 95 percent damage, with losses pegged at approximately $12,000.
In light of these incidents, authorities are urging families to remain vigilant about fire safety, particularly during the holidays, as investigations into both fires are ongoing.
