Fiji Amateur Boxing Association (FABA) has confirmed three boxers will represent the country at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, with the national squad now shifting into an early competitive phase ahead of the tournament. Aminiasi Saratibau will contest the men’s 80kg division, Jone Davule is set for the men’s 60kg class, and Jasmine Daunakamakama will be Fiji’s lone female boxer in the women’s 57kg division.

FABA head coach Cam Todd said the association was initially allocated three Commonwealth quota places and is actively pursuing two additional spots to expand the team. “At this stage we have three boxers confirmed for the Commonwealth Games where we were given three spots and we are still hoping for two more,” Todd told this newspaper. The coach framed the confirmed selections as the start of a longer international campaign aimed at readying the boxers for Glasgow.

The Commonwealth Games are scheduled for July 23 to August 2, 2026, and Todd has placed immediate emphasis on competitive exposure. The three confirmed athletes, together with the remainder of Fiji’s national amateur boxing team, will take part in the Pacific Nations Competition at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva this weekend — the squad’s first international tournament of the year. Todd said he wants the team to “make a statement to the other Island nations that Fiji is here.”

For the Commonwealth-bound boxers, the Pacific Nations Competition serves a dual purpose: a platform to measure form against regional rivals and a stepping stone in their preparations for Glasgow. “And for the Commonwealth Games boxers it’s the start of their international campaign towards the meet in Glasgow,” Todd noted, underlining how performances this weekend could influence momentum and final preparations.

Beyond competition, Todd outlined plans to intensify preparation through joint training sessions with other countries. He described these as an “ideal opportunity” for local boxers to gain quality, high-intensity sparring against top-tier international opponents — a key element he believes will raise the squad’s readiness and competitive toughness ahead of both regional events and the Commonwealth Games.

FABA’s immediate priorities are clear: secure the two additional Commonwealth slots if possible, extract strong results at the Pacific Nations Competition, and use upcoming joint sessions to sharpen the team. How those plans translate into selection and seeding next year will depend on the boxers’ showings in Suva and any further allocations from Commonwealth organisers.
