Two men have been remanded in custody in connection with the alleged murder of Police Constable Peniasi Racagi. Keni Salawai, 42, and Jope Seniloli, 20, both residents of Qauia in Lami, appeared in front of Senior Magistrate Sufia Hamza this afternoon.
The pair, alongside a third individual, is accused of aiding and abetting in causing injuries that led to the death of Constable Racagi between February 21 and 22. The serious nature of the charges has resulted in the matter being transferred to the High Court as murder is classified as an indictable offence.
Tragically, Constable Racagi lost his life in the line of duty, with his body discovered behind the Lami Oceania Wesley Church on the morning of February 22. Sergeant Pritika Prasad is representing the prosecution in this case. Salawai has chosen to represent himself, while Seniloli is receiving assistance from a defense counsel.
The court proceedings have been adjourned until next Friday, marking a significant step in the pursuit of justice for the fallen officer. Despite the serious nature of the charges, there remains hope that the legal process will lead to rightful accountability and a measure of peace for Constable Racagi’s grieving community.
